Soprano Ruth Hartt performs frequently in the Boston area, most recently as Lauretta with the Boston University Opera Theater. For her performance of Elsie Maynard inYeomen of the Guard at Boston's Jordan Hall she was hailed “the perfect G&S ingenue” (Lloyd Schwartz, The Boston Phoenix). Other opera roles in repertoire include Celidora in Mozart’s L’oca del Cairo as a PORTopera Young Artist, Clorinda in La Cenerentola with Opera del West, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro and the title role of Suor Angelica. She has appeared as Micaela and Blanche in scenes with Boston University Opera Theater, and as Fiordiligi and Donna Anna in scenes with Longwood Opera. As an oratorio soloist, Ms. Hartt has been featured with the Boston Boys Chorus, the Concord Chorus, the Bostonians, and the Masterworks Chorale in such works as the Mozart Requiem, the Faure Requiem, and Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass. A native of Maine, Ms. Hartt was a first place winner at the Maine NATS Song & Aria Competition in 2008, and was a finalist in the Peter Elvins Competition in both 2009 and 2010. She was awarded first place in the graduate division at the Boston regional Classical Singer Competition in January 2010. Ms. Hartt is pursuing a master’s degree in vocal performance at Boston University, where she studies with Penelope Bitzas. She is soprano soloist at Boston's historic Old North Church. |
